Loved Before You Sleep

A gentle five-minute reading and prayer for younger children: end the day in the truth that matters most—your child is deeply, securely, and unchangeably loved by God.

🌙 About 5 minutes 🧸 Younger kids 🛏 Calm bedtime rhythm

Your five-minute bedtime plan

A quiet rhythm before sleep

Read slowly, keep voices soft, and let your child stay tucked in while you share.

1

Settle

Dim the room, get comfortable, and take one slow breath together.

2

Read

Read 1 John 3:1 slowly, then repeat the words “children of God” together.

3

Remember

Remind your child that God’s love is not earned—it is given freely and securely.

4

Share

Let your child share one thing that made them happy, sad, or unsure today.

5

Pray

Rest in the Father’s love and end with a peaceful blessing.

Read together

1 John 3:1

“See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.”

Scripture quotation from the English Standard Version.

One big idea

God’s love is the safest truth to fall asleep with.

Children can end the day carrying many feelings—joy, disappointment, worry, or tiredness. 1 John 3:1 lifts our eyes to the truth that matters most: God has given us a wonderful love. In Christ, we are called His children.

God’s love does not change when the day was hard, when feelings are big, or when a child feels unsure. His love stays steady because it comes from who He is.

At bedtime, this truth can bring deep peace. Your child does not need to earn God’s affection by having a perfect day. They can rest knowing they are seen, known, and deeply loved by their heavenly Father. Before sleep comes, let love be the last word.

Whisper and wonder

Gentle bedtime questions

Choose one or two. Keep the conversation simple, warm, and reassuring.

1

What do you think it means to be called a child of God?

2

How does it make your heart feel to know that God loves you very much?

3

When you had a hard moment today, how can remembering God’s love help you?

4

What is one thing you want to thank God for before you sleep tonight?

Tonight’s calming practice

Rest in His love

Place a hand over your heart and say together: “I am loved by God. I am His child.”

01 · Breathe in

Take a slow breath and think: “God loves me.”

02 · Breathe out

Slowly let the breath go and think: “I can rest in His love.”

03 · Rest

Repeat three times, then become still and let that truth settle in your heart.

Pray together

A bedtime prayer in the Father’s love

Dear God, thank You for loving me so much and for calling me Your child. Thank You that Your love does not change when I am tired, upset, or unsure. Please help me fall asleep with peace in my heart. Remind me tonight that I am safe in Your care, surrounded by Your love, and never forgotten by You. Bless my family and help us rest well. In Jesus’ name, amen.
